Great Grey Shrike

This Great Grey Shrike took a couple of attempts to find, and even then the best I could manage was this very distant shot. The Shrike sits atop trees scanning for prey such as small vertebrates, small birds and large invertebrates. Once captured it will impale them on a spike to consume or
save for later. Small numbers of Great Grey Shrike visit the UK to winter here each year.
