Welcome to Wild In Britain, an occasional and irregular photo journal of my encounters with all types of wildlife in the British Isles. All species featured on the site are wild, and all photographs are the copyright of Ben Locke. For prints and licensing click here. Please also take a look at my main site BenLocke.co.uk
The Pine marten was another key species I intended to photograph on my recent trip to Scotland, and they didn't disappoint. This is just one of a large series of shots that had them clambering over rocks, climbing trees, and scrambling on top of each other. Part of the mustelid family of mammals, which includes Badger, Weasel, Otter and Stoat, Pine martens are cat-sized, and live in native woodlands but can also live in conifer plantations and on rocky hillsides.
